Our training courses are aimed at riders from beginners to experienced equestrians looking to be initiated into a different kind of riding: WESTERN RIDING.
Founded on trust and mutual respect with a rigorous work ethic, Western riding means that all riders from 7 to 77 can ENJOY themselves in all SAFETY.

TECHNICAL INTRODUCTION
During the introduction you will find out about
the rudiments of Western riding.

discovering Western equipment
(saddles – bridles – bits – trekking equipment)
approach to Western horses along ethological principles.
footwork
circle work on three speeds (two-handed & one-handed reins)
steering - posture
stopping: bringing the horse to a dead stop from a gallop.

TREKKING, BIVOUACKING
After initiation in the arena,
it’s time for you to saddle up and enjoy your Western horse!

Causses - the Marcillac Valley and its hillside vineyards– the Forest of Palanges - Puech Maynade is the starting point for an inexhaustible variety of treks!

A sprawling circuit with evening stopovers in our lodge,
in the heart of our summer pastureland on the peaks…
After a day of endless horizons, you’ll get back to the warmth of
log fire grills in front of the fireplace… and evenings in silence beneath
the stars… A change of scenery guaranteed!

CATTLE WORK
This means getting up close to the Puech Maynade estate’s Black Angus and Hereford (an American breed) cattle.

• Introduction to gathering and driving a herd
• Isolating an animal (veterinary care etc.)

Roping
A cowboy’s bread and butter!
And don’t forget, we are cattle breeders. You’ll soon fall under the spell of the unpredictable (calving, prophylaxis, containment, convoying etc.)
Introduction to TEAM PENNING (picking out 3 calves from a group and moving them to a cattle pen). Within a set time limit! |

How long our courses last
• Modules range from 2 days (a weekend) to 6 days.
• During HIGH SEASON (Easter – July – August):
courses are held in 6-day modules
(arriving Saturday night – leaving Saturday morning ).
Limited number of guests (maximum 9).
4 to 6 hours riding per day on average.

Our programme is very wide-ranging.
You’re offered a choice combination during your stay, given the demands of other participants and, of course, the weather forecast.

Developing Confidence and Safety, while giving participants the opportunity to progress over the course of several days.
